Being an actor or actress is hard work. Competition for this job is so intense because many people are auditioning for the same roles and parts. They’re always under a lot of pressure, time constraint and stress. They also have to spend extra time in practices and rehearsals. Most of them need a second job in order for them to make enough money for a living. Career Description To be an actor or actress, you will need to have a lot of patience and should always be in good physical condition. You would love acting, performing and entertaining others. They can find their own or have personal agents or a manager to find their jobs. Agents and managers can also deals with their contracts and plan their careers. They earn a part of the pay in their actor’s or actress’ contract. Actors often work with a drama coach, to make their characters realistic. They also research their roles to comprehend the story’s background better and sometimes have to learn a foreign language for them to develop the accent they need. All actors must have or be with at least one casting agency. Casting agencies are the agencies that are looking for talented people that work in different fields, such as singing, dancing, skating, etc. Education and Qualifications There are a lot of schools you can go to in New Zealand, but one of the schools most people go to is The University of Otago. To enrol at this school you will need to possess or show strong commitment. You will need to take fourteen papers for the first level which is Level 100, sixteen papers for the second level which is Level 200, six papers for the third level which is Level 300 and seven papers for the last level which is the Above and Minor Level 100. Once you have completed a degree in Performing Arts Studies, you can keep studying Performing Arts if you choose to. You can continue on and get the degree of Postgraduate Diploma of Dance or Arts, or the Master of Arts Degree.
Everyday Life

  • For a successful actor
Their alarms are shouting early in the morning, and they quickly move straight down the kitchen eating the healthiest foods of all and might as well go for an exercise. Then they go to the studio and start reading their scripts, while getting their hair and make up done. With them trying to concentrate and learn their lines, they’re also getting another million questions from their agents and managers about what’s going to happen further in the day. Five minutes later they are rehearsing their scenes. Then, they might have to go to photo shoots or interviews. They now get to have and enjoy some free time for themselves, going shopping, without having any idea that there’s a paparazzi watching their every single move. They get home and get ready either for a movie premiere or a party. They now come back from that and start to sign some contracts that need to be signed. They get to bed and have their ordinary days over the next day.
  • Struggling Actors
A struggling actor usually spends their time, looking through the newspapers or surfing through the internet looking for second jobs because of how little their salary is. They audition for as many movies and ads they can get into, just so they can have enough money to live. They’re the ones that don’t really show enough ability and stamina to perform in big and live performances. They might have the best moves, voice or talents, but that’s not what the people in TV look for. Salary A salary of an actress may vary on how successful you are. If you’re an actress in a commercial or just someone in the background, you can get at least $40,390.50 a year. This salary can go up to $103, 38.00; this could be your salary for a month if you’re the lead of the movie. You also can get a commission which is the money you get when you finish the task that’s needed to be done, which starts from $8.20 to $69, 097.00. Struggling actresses and actors get a total pay of $34,071.10 to be in the background of a scene with a few lines or an advertisement. But most of the times being in an ad can get you at least $89,000.00 and might as well depend on how long you’re in or what you’re doing. Successful actors and actresses can get a total pay of $110,659.00 Career PathBeing an actress is not that easy. You always have to start in smaller roles, like working behind the scenes with successful directors, serve on the boards of art companies or promote your own projects and designs. Then you work your way up, working in radio and television broadcasting, communications, films or dramatic literature. Dramatic Literature is the texts of plays that can be read. Most people change work straight after this stage, like teach in a high school or college drama departments, acting conservatories or perform with local community theatre groups. If they do not choose to do this and keep going with the career they have now, they might as well work as extras with little or no lines. They now can try being in a commercial and start asking or auditioning for the bigger parts. They can also choose to make their own music or movies of their own choice. Highlights/Positives
The positives of being an actress are that there are so many options you can choose from and actors and actresses appear everywhere. You would be able to see them either in TV, movies, concerts, internet, newspapers and catalogues. Travelling around the world for tours and music videos is another one of the great things an actress can have. The feeling of accomplishment and the pay is big time.
Lowlights/Negatives
There are quite a lot of things that can draw you back from being an actress. One of the worst things that could happen to you as an actress is to get rejected and to have to always believe in yourself even when you’re not in the mood or when you’re depressed. Another negative is the competition and the people who talk about you badly behind your back. It’s also really hard meeting the cold directors, photographers and casting directors, who can criticise you a lot.
Career Contributions to the Community This career can contribute to the community in a lot of ways. Most actors do this by entertaining people in television, in a movie, music video or in concerts making music. They usually do this to help out a good cause by simply donating the money they get to the charity they choose. Some of them also go somewhere that’s public and participate in events. These are another one of their contributions. Some also might as well spend their free time teaching or sharing their skills in local community theatre groups. Why would this career suit my personality? I like to write fiction stories, draw or play music. I’m also really good at Performing Arts. I’m quite emotional but fun to be with. I can memorize music and songs easily and I can listen to music or watch the television while studying. I also love storytelling and writing plays. I have a wild imagination which I can always use in Performing Fine Arts. I’m really organised so I can handle all the things that need to be done such as, chores, homework, dishes and all of my other curricular activities. I can follow instructions that I am told and get it done to the best of my ability. Therefore, even though being an actress can give you big time money and big time fame, a lot of things can draw you back.

"Ewwww Yuuck! Im not buying that, it's been tested ona lovely animal who didn't deserve to die." Have you ever come across a product thta's been tested ona lovely animal and was killed for our sake or for our food? Have you ever worked in a place were animals die just for you to look pretty or live a fabulous life? Or even come past someone at the mall wearing a fur coat when eighteen red foxes die just to make one? Or maybe even when you went to a Lady Gaga concert having so much fun about having to think about how much animals die in a blink of an eye for their costumes to look fantastic?

Think about it. Pigs at the age of six months die and reach th slaughter house. Tens of thousands of wild and domisticated horses in U.S. are cruelly slaughtered for horse meat and millions of turkeys are hunged and skinned alive in factories dying.

What about you hunters? How many mother deers have you killed? And now how many baby deers do you thinks are now looking for their mother and crying out for food? How many little children's hope and dreams have you ruined just because they wake up on an Easter morning and can't find a single bunny?

Most animal testing and research are conducted on birds and rodents and ninenty percent of them die. Elephants that perform in circuses are kept in chains for a s,ong as twenty-three hours since the time they were born. They get beaten, whipped or even burned just for them to let their routines. Do we know how or what they feel?

Every year nine billion chickens are raised and killed for meat, one billion animals are slaughtered by leather industry, one hundred billion animals die in experiments & every year three to four billion cats and dogs are euthanized.

And what about in the future? How are you going to ask your children what sound a cat or dog makes when they don't even know what they are because they are gone extinct? How many times are you going to be able to take them to the zoo and ask them what their favourite animal was?

In the movie, Cannibal Holocaust. A muskrat, a pig, a monkey, a snake, a tutle and a large spider was killed for the sake of the film. It has even been said that the scene depicting the monkey had to be shot twice, therefore two minkeys were sacrified for movie realism.

Sixty-seven percent of Americans disapprove of cloning animals for food. So why can't we? Eighty-eight percent says no after then learn that animal cruelty is involved. So why can't we? One thousand six hundred chimpanzees are now house and fed in America. So why can't we? At the end it has to be us that would need to come and walk together to let animals have rights. So ask yourself. Even if you're a boy or a girl. Man or woman. Young or old. Can you make a difference?
Narratives!?! xo
To those who are confused about who they want to be.
I believe that children ought to be able to choose how their life is going to roll, but in this case these children or people were unable to. Firstly let me make myself known, my name is Zeus. I was the most influential god in the prominent city of Mount Olympus. Some say I was the one who made the sun and moon come and go. Others say I was the one who alternated the seasons. You will see my power from the moment the wind starts blowing hard and the trees are swaying like they are dancing. The time when you can hear the wind howling through the window panels that are shielding you from the cold, to the time where everyone goes to a place where you can feel the grains of sand between your toes and hear the waves pound against the soft sand. In my hand, I bear a glorious shield marked with a majestic eagle. I laughed a lot and fell in love very often, I was also the chief judge of the city and I am here to tell you the story of how the twelve gods’ and goddesses’ sons and daughters saved the world and found out who they really were.
……… അ ………
“Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrng!” the bell blasted for everyone to go to their first period classes.
As the only ten students in the History class slowly walk in, they realised that they didn’t have a teacher for three weeks, so their Principal Mr Zaccheus and Deputy Principal Mrs Halona were filling in. As the students patiently waited for them, they all listened to them both quarrelling like little children.
“Is it time?” interrogated Mrs Halona.
“Yes it is, we must give them the accurate god or goddess according to who or what they are to the school.” responded Mr Zaccheus.
As you can see these ten children are not just any kind of average yet ordinary students. They are the sons and daughters of the stupendous Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Ares, Hephaestus, Athena, Hermes, Apollo, Artemis, Aphrodite, Hera and of course myself, Zeus. Mr Zaccheus stands as me as he is the Principal of the school and Mrs Halona stands as my wife and queen, the divine, statuesque and breathtaking Hera. Mr Zaccheus and Mrs Halona are our children and as their parents we have to notify them what their duty is. Now you might be pondering what their task is, so of course I’m going to tell you. They both have to give them little giveaways, in order for them to find out who they are.
……… അ ………
The two teachers casually ambled in the class.
“Okay class, let’s take the roll and read out the notices for the day,” announced Mrs Halona.
She called out their names and they all responded with a “Here Mrs Halona”.
“Okay, notices for the day,” declared Mrs Halona. “Swimming try-outs today at 1:30, Philip I know you’ll be there!”
Philip rapidly wrote on his hand saying: SwimineSwimming – 1:30, then showed an expeditious smile to Mrs Halona.
“Aron, I’ll see you in detention!”
Aron gave the evils and looked malevolently at Hernando; he then showed his fist at him. Hernando pretended not to see him.
“Peer Mediation meeting today in Room 16 at lunchtime. Thank You Heather and Atara, nice to see you both accomplishing you duties with gratification,” she exclaimed. “Congratulations to our football team, especially to Heremon, as you all know is the captain and the quarterback of our school’s football team.”
Everyone gave him a round of applause as he blew a kiss to Aolani.
“Antonio, this one’s for you, Music in Room 4 after this.”
He showed an audacious smile and also blew a kiss to Aolani.
“Where’s Haden?” queried Mr Zaccheus.
“I’m here!” replied Haden, “Can anyone find my pen?”
“It’s under your chair,” murmured Aurelia.
“Okay class, today you all are getting your first History assignment for the term. You lots have to investigate the ‘Greek Gods or Goddess’ you have been assigned and get together to analyse what you have found,” explained Mr Zaccheus.
“Philip, you have Poseidon, I see you both adore the water,” “Haden, you get Hades as you two both are scarcely seen anywhere!” “Heather...the Goddess of the Heart, Hestia,” “Ares is for Aron, I see you both thrive on violence, battles and wars,” “Hernando, the God of the Forge. You two are born with the same exact things,” “Atara, because you have passion with inventing and compromising, you get Athena,” “Heremon, sports is what you need so Hermes is who you get,” “Apollo is yours Antonio, I’m sure you would love him,” “Aurelia, you love hunting? So does Artemis!”“And of course Aolani, the Goddess of Beauty, Aphrodite.”
……… അ ………
Now you’ve heard most of the fundamental things our soon to be Greek Gods and Goddesses have, is this giving you a clue of who’s, who’s each other’s brothers and sisters? After this class ended, they all absconded to their next activities.
“Okay girls, five, six, seven and eight. Well done, take five!” yammered Aolani.
“Just do the basic pyramid and cradle while I try to figure out what were going to do for our next competition….Aaaaaaargh! I don’t know what to do!” whined Aolani.
A voice in her head abruptly said:
“Just do the formation you did on your last competition and work your way up to a pyramid.”
“What is that? It always happens to me,” summoned Aolani.
Let’s now move on to Aurelia, but generally she’s probably just overlooking the school’s bulletin board for any lost items.
“Hmmm…I wonder where the bag with the moon on the front is,” she pondered.
Just like Aolani, a voice is communicating to her!
“It’s outside, beside the oak tree.”
“What is that voice?” she muttered to herself.
Let’s now head to the Music Room, and yes, it is to see how Antonio is doing.
“Okay, so it’s a G chord then F then repeat it, three more times, after that its ummmmm…Oh Yeah, A minor. Thanks ominous or imaginary or whatever voice in my head!” giggled Antonio.
Let’s now get out of this room, go across the malodorous hallway and out the evergreen and luscious fields. The referee gaudily blew his whistle like an elephant making its noise as the ball flies high reaching in the air. Who do you think caught it? Heremon…yeah no doubt in that! His teammates all went to try put him in to the ground, and then he scored? How is that even possible? Hermes probably, talked to him and gave him advice.
“Couldn’t have done it without you Super Maxi.” he whispered to himself.
Just in case you’re wondering, Super Maxi is what he named the voice in his head, which of course is his dad, Hermes. Well I’ve had enough of Antonio; let’s check out what’s happening in the Peer Mediation meeting.
“Heather! I totally just lost sight of what were going to talk about,” expressed Atara concerned and worried.
“I know same, wait I remember now, this voice in my head always helps me when I don’t know what to do, it’s so unnatural right?” explained Heather.
“OMG! You get that too, I’ve been getting it since I was three,” Heather exclaimed Well maybe for our History assignment we can research together and after that we can look up at what’s actually happening to us!” she replied excitedly.
Heather answered back in a nod. Well looks like Heather and Atara are coming close to solving the puzzle out. Let’s see how Antonio is doing.
“Aaaaaaargh! I can’t get off this stupid wheelchair! Come on!” shrieked Apollo.
“Keep moving, Aron is just right behind you,” whispered the voice in distress.
Antonio moved as fast as the hooves of a horse on a racetrack. Luckily he turned in the corner for Detention. Speaking of Aron, let’s see how he’s planning to escape this time.
“Hold on Aron, go take a seat as I need to go and get the document I printed out,” commanded Mrs Halona.
Aron looked out the door window and sluggishly try to move out, sadly Mrs Halona walked up behind and said:
“Detention tomorrow too! Try to escape again? There’s going to be a lot more of that coming up!” she said intimidating him.
I have a feeling, my wife Hera babbled her mouth a bit to Mrs Halona, except you know, in her head!
“Haden? Has anyone seen Haden?” asked Mr Zaccheus concernedly.
“Haden! Mr Zaccheus is looking for you in the next hallway,” whispered the voice.
“This voice is now really creeping me out,” muttered Haden.
He meandered through the next hallway and found Mr Zaccheus.
“I’m here sir! I wandered past you just before,” stated Haden.
“Oh! I didn’t see you; can you come with me please?”
Hmmm...Something’s up I reckon but maybe we should give them a bit of privacy. Let’s head out on the pools to see Philip shall we?
“On your marks, get set, GO!” As the swimmers dive in to the frosty glacial ice water, they all competed and raced to the finished. Philip came first and won the race by a mile and as usual the voice in his head was the one that made him win.
……… അ ………
The next moment the sun awakened and the rooster babbled, the ten out of the ordinary students went to do their research. But before I start telling this part of the story, first let me tell you that I am not going to tell you about what they all found. Well of course just those who actually found something about what’s going on. So far, the closest is Heather and Atara, so maybe we should start with them.
“Okay, well I found out that Hestia is a Capricorn, siblings with Zeus, Poseidon, Hades and Hera, also daughter of Cronus and Rhea. She is the most magnimous, affectionate and amiable of all Olympians. She never quibbled with anyone nor took sides in an argument. “Hmmmmm…. she does sort of sound like me doesn’t she?” thought Heather.
“Well the only thing I found out is that…ummmmm...that those who are related to any Greek God, gets umm voices in their head that assists them when they need it. You don’t think?” Atara said hesitantly.
“No way Jose!” Heather rudely interrupted her.
……… അ ………
The next time the sun arouse and showed its flamboyant rays of light, it was time for them to get ready for school and meet up. They all devoured their brunch and listened to the morning news.
“Today’s breaking news; children all over Greece are disappearing. Some said it was a dominant eleven year old child causing this problem. Police are now on the reconnaissance on finding out who caused this and why.”
At that moment, they all stopped and watched and as they did, their eyes widened in their amazement.
“Is that Haden?” they all asked themselves.
They went to school and continued their average school days apart from some of these particular things.
“Haden? Has anyone seen Haden?” queried Mr Zaccheus.
“I think I did, on TV this morning...hehe!” Aurelia said blissfully as if she was assuming it was a mischief.
“Should we just break it to them?” questioned Mrs Halona.
“Well it’s time, Hades is taking over in two exact weeks and if we don’t develop their abilities now it’ll be too late,” replied Mr Zaccheus panicked and alarmed.
They all glanced at them puzzled and completely rattled. Well more like if they were old innocent fools.
“Okay children, you all need to understand this right here, right now! You are all sons and daughters of the great and prodigious Greek gods. That accident that you saw in TV is Haden, his father Hades is hypnotising him and he has no idea about what he’s doing or what is going on. Your real parents the gods and goddesses of Greek chose the people you think are your parents now to adopt and take care of you because they are not allowed to see you at any time. You will also be in training starting tomorrow, to help you enhance your unique abilities to fight Hades when its time. I will also be giving you individual weapons and props that will help you defeat him.” Mr Zaccheus said in fear.
They all again gazed at them both puzzled and confused and instantly cracked up hysterically apart from Heather and Atara who discovered this last night.
“Actually its true, Heather and I found this out last night during our research!” Atara shrieked frantically.
“Yeah, that’s why we hear voices when we need support, advice or assistance and those voices are our parents helping us through our times of distress and need.” replied Heather shyly.
Aron eyeballed them both and bursts with great rage and suddenly put an end to it when he saw everyone looking at him in a dreadful way.
“Hmmm...umm yeeeer. I get those things too!” he exclaimed embarrassed and ashamed.
“As I was saying, you all will be starting training tomorrow, depending to your competences. We only have two weeks until Hades comes and fights us.” commanded Mr Zaccheus.
……… അ ………
The next day came and they trained and trained for the whole entire day. You could see sweat running down their spines and their faces red as a tomato. They breathe heavily from how tired they were. As it was Friday, it meant that there were no meetings or assemblies for any kind of sport or activity.
“Philip! You have a mountain full of power when you’re in the water or in a place where water is fully preserved. You can control it to however you want to,” explained Mr Zaccheus.
Try it!” he commanded.
Philip moved his hand in a direction where his hand was facing forwards. He twisted it clockwise, closed his fist as if he was crushing a handful of nuts and punched in the air. The evergreen and lush grass turned brown, brittle and crisp. He had the power to suck the life out of the plants by drying every bit of water in it.
Mr Zaccheus steadily walked into the wood room where he saw Atara, Hernando and Heather outlining the fight, inventing and constructing the weapons they’ll need. Atara arranged how it’s going to work, Heather thought about what weapons they’ll need, passed it on to Hernando who’s the one constructing them and chucked it on to the table to finish.
“Hernando! That ain’t a piece of football! Don’t chuck it, jump up on your feet and settle it on to the table. You’ve got to use your coconut!” he screeched pointing at his head.
He moved on to the next room to see how Aron was achieving his duties.
“Keep testing the weapons Aron, so you can be very familiar with them. We don’t want you dropping them while you’re fighting Hades do we?” he commanded.
He walked past Heremon and gave him a golden winged helmet, sandals and cadeceus which would help him to gain speed during the fight. Mr Zaccheus went out on the Archery field; there he saw Antonio and Aurelia launching up arrows.
“Antonio and Aurelia! On the day you two will be the first ones up. Just keep shooting arrows at Hades to reduce his speed. Heremon will then go and do his job. Antonio, we’ll need you to cure those who are sick and ailing so after fighting Hades so go to the school’s sick bay straight away.”
Antonio and Aurelia listened carefully and gave him their full attention and then replied back with a nod.
“Show me how you aim!” he mandated.
Antonio and Aurelia aimed then fired their arrows. The arrows went zooming to the boards and landed an inch away from the middle.
“Keep your elbows up, close one eye, then fire,” said Mr Zaccheus
Both Antonio and Aurelia tried and got a bull’s eye, they turned around with smiles fading from their faces, seeing Mr Zaccheus was gone.
“Aolani! Here’s a belt that your mother used, wear it on the day as this will make Hades fall in love with you leaving him mesmerised by your beauty. Aron will then do the last kill by using his weapons to finish. If that doesn’t do the trick, Mrs Halona and I will handle it,” explained Mr Zaccheus.
……… അ ………
With days and days of practicing and training they haven’t even realised that it’s already been two weeks and the fight is tomorrow! Hades is coming in the form of Haden and they have to kill him whether they like it or not. Well it’s sort of what the whole save the world thing mean isn’t it? To save the world we all have to make sacrifices, even though it means killing or hurting the ones we love.
Well, back to the point, the fight is tomorrow so let’s see the young gods and goddesses one more time before they fight Hades.
“All we need to defeat him is to follow the plan right?” thought Mr Zaccheus.
They practiced the plan three more times to make sure. So I guess the only thing were all hanging around for is who will survive?
……… അ ………
“Toot! Toot! Toot! Toot!” the sound of the alarm went blasting through everyone’s ear.
For any other people it’s just going to be their regular Saturdays, playing games outside or going to work for a living. But you all know what’s happening today, don’t you? Yes, it is today is the day that the nine new gods are fighting Hades and saving the world at the same time.
They all stood in a continuous line ready to attack anyone who approaches. Then a humongous gust of wind came and straight after it finished, there it was, a kid standing in the middle of the field. Hades.
“Well, hello there young kids!” he joked laughing.
“We’re not kids!” Philip replied.
“Oh well Yaaada, Yaaada, Yaaada. Who’s going first?” he asked in a comical manner.
Two arrows suddenly flung at him, one coming from the back and one coming from the front. He was as still as stone with blood oozing down his chest. Few moments past, twelve more arrows were shot at him and he was now down to his knees. Heremon instantaneously ran and punched him but it was no use, Hades stood up, screamed and made the sunny skies turned into a menacing black and cloudy sky. Heremon was still going, with Philip making a whirlpool out of the rain dripping down from the sky, Aolani screamed at the top of her lungs:
“Philip! Stop it quickly now and let Heremon go, he’s in there!
Philip stopped it hastily and with a blink of an eye Heremon was gone. Philip was still trying to suffocate Hades, but it was no match. Hades still has a bit of strength, so Aolani stood in front of him wearing the belt that Mr Zaccheus gave her. Hades stood in front of her looking blank and hypnotised; suddenly Aron came along and shot him with a gun that fired hot and blazing meteors. A gigantic hole was made through his stomach, he then slowly fell to the ground and was dead; Mr Zaccheus and Mrs Halona came strolling along with wide smiles on their faces. They looked down at Hades and made fire that was scorching and feverous out of the matches and gas they had in their hands. They threw it at him as he screamed with mercy and was turned into grey and dusty ash.
……… അ ………
I guess the question has now been answered; all of them survived apart from the brave and courageous Haden. All the other children is now out saving the world for evil villains+ & many more.
“This is the start of a beautiful beginning!” thought Mr Zaccheus.
THE END!
